In Magna Symphonia

The narrative in this text (which I freely arranged) is a veiled creation story: everything is dark and the people are confused . . . at least until someone shows up and begins to sing. Then “the earth exudes Life”, and wherever this music goes, it brings that life with it, both to nature and to the people, who take it in “as nourishment”. It reminds me of all the choir tours I've been on over the years (especially the ones outside the United States) and the unique ability that music has to immediately, gently, cross borders between communities.

In Magna Symphonia was commissioned by the Nebraska Children's Chorus Bel Canto
(Sean Burton, conductor) and was premiered in June 2007
