April (I Love You) is a setting of a poem originally entitled I love you by one of America's most celebrated authors, Sara Teasdale (1884–1933). Born in St Louis, this accomplished and much admired poet won the Columbia Poetry Prize, (later renamed the Pulitzer Prize), as well as the annual prize from the Poetry Society of America for her 1917 collection Love Songs. Although highly successful during her lifetime, she was troubled with ill health, and in later years plagued with loneliness and depression. Her works are characterized by a beautiful clarity and simplicity, evocative emotion and lyricism. Mark Sirett
