Lawrence Kaptein is Director of Choral Activities. He conducts the University Choir in addition to teaching choral conducting. Under his leadership the University Choir has distinguished itself at performances for major conventions and competitions throughout Europe and the United States. Professor Kaptein maintains a vigorous schedule of guest conducting and lecturing, having conducted All-State Choirs and presented workshops throughout the U.S. and Asia. Professor Kaptein has published articles in numerous professional journals both in the U.S. and Europe. He is a member of the National ACDA Committee compiling and evaluating high school choral repertoire and a repertoire consultant for Morton Music Publishing in Australia. He is also editor of the Lawrence Kaptein Choral Series published by Alliance Music of Houston, Texas. Professor Kaptein holds degrees from Willamette University, Portland State University, and the University of Southern California where he received a DMA degree in choral music and conducting.
