Laura Sheils is a choral composer, researcher, and music educator based in Dublin. She completed her undergraduate studies at Mater Dei Institute of Education (Dublin City University), before undertaking an Advanced Diploma in Choral Conducting and Kodály Music Pedagogy at the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy in Hungary, and an MA in Choral Studies at DCU. Laura is currently a PhD candidate at Dublin City University, researching contemporary Irish choral music. She also teaches in DCU in the areas of aural and keyboard skills, harmony and counterpoint, and music-teaching methodology.
Laura's choral writing is characterised by lyrical melodies and dance-like rhythms that reflect her interest in pop and electronic dance music. Her compositions have been published by Alliance Music Publications, Oxford University Press, and Cailíno Music Publishers, and have been commissioned and performed by groups such as The Choral Scholars of University College Dublin, Laetare Vocal Ensemble, Mornington Singers, New Dublin Voices, the Irish Youth Choir, St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral Girls' Choir, Dublin, Belfast Philharmonic Youth Choir, Dublin Youth Choir, Clermont Chorale, and the Epiphoni Consort. Recordings featuring Laura's music include The Choral Scholars of University College Dublin's James Joyce Chamber Music Vol. I (Signum Records) and St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral Girls' Choir's Vox Feminina II.
