Melissa Roth Melissa Roth Young grew up in San Antonio, singing in great schools and community choirs. She was a member of the inaugural Children's Chorus of San Antonio under the direction of Marguerite McCormick, the Madison High School Chorale & Madison Avenue under the direction of Paula Edwards and the Trinity Baptist Church Youth Choir, directed by Tommy Lyons. She was a 3 year member of the TMEA All-State Mixed choir. A graduate of Baylor University (BMEd'93) and the University of North Texas (MMEd'02), Mrs. Young is also a nationally certified Kodály instructor (Level IV PSU '01) and served on the OAKE Board 2004-2006 and on the Oregon ACDA board as Children&&39;s Choir Repertoire & Standards Chair 2002-2006. She recently served T.M.E.A. Region III Middle School Vocal Secretary, Coordinator Elect and Coordinator from 2010-2016. While at Baylor, Mrs. Young sang with the Acapella Choir under the direction of Hugh Sanders, performing at the Texas Music Educators Association convention, and in Seoul, Korea at the International Choral Festival. She has also enjoyed performing with the Baylor Opera Theater, Waco Symphony Chorus, Waco Chamber Singers, Dallas Symphony Chorus, Texas Gilbert & Sullivan Company, the First Presbyterian Church Portland Chamber Choir, Belle Voci Women's Ensemble, Portland, Custer Road UMC Chancel Choir, Plano, Tx and currently the First United Methodist Church, Richardson, Tx Chancel Choir and Ensemble. Mrs. Young has taught for 24 years in public schools and community choirs in Texas & Oregon and is a sought after clinician, adjudicator, and composer. Mrs. Young was a presenter at the 2000 OAKE National Convention, the 2006 AOSA National Convention. Additionally, Mrs. Young is a published with Alliance Music Publications. Now in her 11th year at Richardson North Junior High, RNJH Choirs consistently receive UIL Concert & Sight Reading sweepstakes and have numerous students selected for the All-Region Choir and the TCDA Honor Choirs. In 2010, the RNJH Varsity Treble Choir was selected as the Honor Choir for the National OAKE Convention in Dallas. The North Junior High Choirs have received Best in Class and Grand Champion trophies at local festivals. Mrs. Young lives in Richardson, Texas with her husband and three children, Carson, Calvin and Anabelle. She enjoys being a part of the vibrant arts community here in Richardson. |
