Kathryn Parrotta

Kathryn began singing and playing piano at an early age. She sang with several local choirs and at the age of eight her choral and piano compositions were being performed and recorded. Her love of composition was furthered under the guidance of theory and flute teacher Tim Janz. Choral music became Kathryn's specialty after singing under such directors as Marnie Strome (Calgary Children's Choir), Elaine Quilichini (Calgary Girls Choir and University Women's Choir), and Janet Youngdahl (Spiritus Chamber Choir) where she was the composer in residence for four years.

In 2003, Kathryn obtained a Bachelor of Music in voice performance from the University of Calgary. In 2009, Kathryn completed her Master of Music degree in choral conducting with Dr. Malcolm V. Edwards. Currently, Kathryn works with the Youth Singers of Calgary as the Junior Hi and Encore music director, music arranger, enhancement programs teacher, and Kidzxpress and Junior Hi combined choral director. She is also a member of OnCue, a semi-professional division of the Youth Singers of Calgary, specializing in contempoary a cappella. She is also a vocal and choral clinician and adjudicator at several high schools and festivals throughout Alberta and maintains a private voice and theory studio. As a composer, Kathryn has been commisioned to compose several choral works for choirs across Canada, many of which can be found published with Alliance Music Publications and Cypress Choral Music.
