Christopher Gilliam

Dr. Christopher Gilliam is the Director of Choral Activities at Davidson College where he conducts the Chorale, Davidson's premier choral ensemble, Davidson Singers and the Davidson College Choral Arts Society and Pro Arte Orchestra. Proir to Davidson he served as Associate Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Voice at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he taught voice, choral arranging, three choirs, and was the Artistic Director for the school's annual “Christmas Gala” that attracted thousands of children and adults in eight performances each year.

Gilliam is active as a choral clinician and judge. His choirs have been featured in state ACDA and MTNA conventions and toured throughout the United States. Gilliam has also served as guest a conductor for touring choirs in Spain, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Italy.

A founding member of and soloist for the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers, his performances have been praised as “magnificent” in the Kansas City Metropolis, and the Kansas City Star wrote, “Bass Christopher Gilliam was marvelous, with strikingly rich tone and impeccable diction.” Gilliam also sings with the Minnesota Beethoven Festival Chorale under the direction of Dale Warland.

A published composer (Alliance, Beckenhorst, Lorenz) and ASCAP member, Gilliam is an active member of several professional music associations including American Choral Director's Association (ACDA) and National Association of Teacher's of Singing (NATS). He is an elected member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society, and is an honorary member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
